Virender Sehwag: 7/10 & Delhi Daredevils: 7/10  Interesting battle:  Lasith Malings Vs Virender Sehwag & David Warner.  Mumbai Indians (MI) analysis:  MI has squad that can send tremors across the spine of opposition. Team management is providing best possible facilities and services to the players. Mumbai played so well in IPL 3 but lost their way in the finals. Sachin is in the form of his life while we know what Pollard and Symonds can do. Lasith Malinga is the best fast bowler in T20 format. Delhi will collapse if Malings takes care off Sehwag and Warner. Suman, Rayudu and Rohit Sharma have good record in Indian Premier League T20.  Best strategy for Mumbai: Ask DD to bat first and chase its score as Delhi is looking weak in the bowling department.  Probable squad: Sachin Tendulkar (Captain), T. Suman, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu (WK), Andrew Symonds, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, James Franklin, Harbhajan Singh, R. Sehwag’s injury: A clarion call

Starting March 12, 2010, the IPL became the focus of the cricket-loving public. On March 26th, the BCCI declared the list of players for the T20 World Cup due to start in the Caribbean on April 30th. As usual, there was furore over some omissions and inclusions. It died down and the spotlight shifted back to the IPL. Then, rumours of scandals hit the IPL. In the midst of this hullabaloo, cricket lovers were all set to enjoy the semi-finals, when the bombshell dropped. The BCCI declared that Virender Sehwag was ruled out of the T20 World Cup as he was suffering from a shoulder injury which would take 3 to 4 weeks to heal. Every avid Indian cricket fan would surely have been stunned. It was almost déjà vu. Remember, the Sultan of Multan didn't play in the last World Cup either, but the script then was slightly different. He had gone to England and come back without playing a single match thanks to a shoulder injury which was declared late. He subsequently underwent surgery. Captain Dhoni made a statement on how players should not hide injuries, obviously hinting at Sehwag. There was also a rift between the team management and the media on the issue of Sehwag's injury. India lost all the Super 8 matches in the tournament. Coming back to this year's injury, nobody has any details as to how and when he sustained the injury and what is its nature? He had been declared fit when the squad had been announced. So it must have been caused in the course of the IPL matches. Sehwag played a total of 14 matches for the Delhi Daredevils and scored a total of 356 runs with an average of 25.42 and a strike rate of 163.3. But he has not looked comfortable in his game. He either sustained this injury in the last game where Delhi Daredevils played against the … [Read more...]

IPL Game Preview: Delhi Vs Rajasthan

Delhi Daredevils will take on the Rajasthan Royals on the 31st of March at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The Delhi Daredevils seem to have got their IPL 3 campaign back on track and they get the vote to end the recent good run of the Rajasthan Royals. This is one of the most reliable batting surfaces around. Mumbai posted the massive 218 here earlier this season and the other two first-innings scores have both produced run rates of more than 8.8 runs per over. The Hosts: Delhi Daredevils took to flying start at the beginning of the IPL tournament but slowly they lost the fire to win and as a result they have a dropped down the IPL standings. But they made a positive attempt against Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous match showing a lot of promise. They have yet another golden chance against the Rajasthan Royals to turn around the tables and they are not looking bad at all.Dave Warner was the star turn against the Knight Riders with an unbeaten century. Gambhir has returned to action after injury and you get the impression that he, Sehwag and AB de Villiers have still to really click into action with the bat.David Warner and Paul Collingwood have replaced AB De Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan and the pair inspired Delhi to a 40-run victory over Kolkata last time. All eyes will be on Warner following his brilliant 107 from just 69 balls against Kolkata. It truly is a terrifying prospect for new ball bowlers. If Warner doesn't get you, then surely Sehwag will. The latter will be jolly for this match although bear in mind he has slumped of late with only 23 runs in his last three innings. The Visitors: The Rajasthan Royals have had for consecutive wins and they have made a strong come back in the league … [Read more...]

Team analysis: Delhi Daredevils Delhi Daredevils is the Delhi franchise for the Indian Premier League. The franchise is owned by the GMR Group. The team is captained by Gautam Gambhir. During the franchise auction for the Indian Premier League teams, Naresh Ganaparthi of GMR Group purchased the Delhi Daredevils for $84 million. Virender Sehwag has been accorded the icon player status in the Delhi team and was also the captain of the side during the first two seasons. However, he resigned and passed on the leadership to his opening partner Gautam Gambhir. The team also boasts international players such as AB de Villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Paul Collingwood, David Warner and Andrew McDonald. The bowling attack includes international players Glenn McGrath (2008–09), Daniel Vettori, Farveez Maharoof and Dirk Nannes. The team also includes the Indian players like Dinesh Karthik, Amit Mishra and Vijaykumar Yomahesh.  Players’ Profile: Virender Sehwag: Sehwag's play is always soothing to eyes and makes up his lack of footwork with sweet timing. His aggressive style is cut out for One-dayers and Twenty20 cricket, but he is equally devastating in Tests. In modern cricket if there is one player, who can dictate bowlers at will, it has to be Sehwag. What makes him special is his carefree style of play. Whether he is on 96 or 196, he is never on the defensive mode. He will play his natural game and won't mind stepping out to get to his century or a double ton. Sehwag is the only Indian batsman to have two triple centuries in Test cricket. He also comes handy with his gentle off breaks and is well known for his ability to break partnerships. Major teams: India, Asia XI, Delhi, Delhi … [Read more...]

Analysis of IPL captains

Captains played a very crucial role in changing the fortunes of their IPL teams. Captains like Shane Warne and Dhoni inspired their teams with their leadership qualities while Dravid and Laxman buckled under pressure with poor batting and unimaginative captaincy. Unlike Dravid, Laxman at least sacrificed money and iconic status. Analysis of Indian Premier League captains: 1. Shane Warne: He is the coach, captain, magician, God, motivator and saviour for underdogs Jaipur. He inspired young Jaipur team to sensational victories. 2. MS Dhoni: Ice Man Dhoni showed his immense potential against Bangalore with his hard hitting and cool captaincy. Indian cricket is in the safe hands of this “Ice Man”. We will know his real potential in the coming matches where Chennai will miss the services of Mathew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram. Can he inspire his team like Warne? 3. Virender Sehwag: One superb inning against Hyderabad and nothing else. 4. Yuvraj Singh: He is playing consistently well in all the Mohali IPL matches. But team lost some matches due to bad selection and unsettled batting order. Indian vice-captain need to prove his captaincy skills. 5. Sourav Ganguly: He is an inspirational leader but poor batsman. Kolkata fans love the passionate combination of Sourav-Shahrukh but Ganguly needs to score runs. 6. Rahul Dravid: Why is he playing in this tournament? What can he do in Twenty20 games? He should sit at home and watch matches. Poor leader but good man. 7. VVS Laxman: You should pick your best players to win tight Twenty20 games. You can’t bat; you can’t see potential in young men; you can’t take bold innovate decisions; you can’t field; you can’t say no … [Read more...]

IPL Team analysis: Delhi daredevils

Delhi daredevils narrowly missed to build a great team in the Indian Premier League auction due to lack of proper strategy. Lack of big hitting all-rounders and brittle middle order may spoil its chances in the tight 20-20 matches. It should pick hard hitting young all-rounders to overcome this problem. Delhi team needs a world class middle order batsmen like Symonds or Yuvraj etc. Delhi boasts off best line and length bowlers like McGrath and Asif and good spinner, Daniel Vettori. GMR Holdings spent Rs 16 crore to acquire Delhi franchise. Delhi daredevils IPL team review: Rating: 3.5/5.  Money spent on players: 19.6 crore. Franchise: GMR Holdings. Strong points: 1. Good openers- Gambhir and Sehwag.  2. Md. Asif- superb bowler if not one of the best.  3. Experienced Glenn McGrath.  Weak points: 1. Weak keeper batsman- Dinesh Karthik.  2. Brittle middle order.  3. Where are hard hitters in the late stages?  Delhi IPL team: Captain: Virender Sehwag- icon. Other members: 1. Gautam Gambhir- India- 2.9 crore-best twenty20 player.  2. AB de Villiers- South Africa- 1.2 crore.  3. Shoaib Malik- Pakistan- 2 crore.  4. Tillekeratne Dilshan- Sri Lanka- 1 crore.  5. Manoj Tiwary- India- 2.7 crore?  6. Dinesh Karthik- India- 2.1 crore?  7. Daniel Vettori- New Zealand- 2.5 crore.  8. Mohammad Asif- Pakistan- 2.6 crore.  9. Ferveez Maharoof- Sri Lanka- 0.9 crore.  10. Glenn McGrath- Australia- 1.4 crore. Verdict: Delhi daredevils may reach semi-finals if their bowlers performed well. I can’t understand why they spent so much money on Dinesh Karthik and Manoj Tiwary. Please … [Read more...]
