IPL 2008: Super successful brothers

yusuf110

They are brothers with bats and balls. They are playing for different teams. There is a huge difference in their auction prices. But these brothers are outstanding for their teams in IPL T20 tournament. All of them won at least one man of the match award. Yusuf Pathan is the cheapest cricketer among them but beat all expectations and is now indispensable player for Rajasthan Royals. Brothers in arms:  1. Pathan Brothers (Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan):  B. Yusuf Pathan (Rajasthan Royals): Along with Shane Watson, he will command huge price in the 2009 IPL auction. He always gave rousing start to Jaipur batting with sensational stroke play. He took crucial wickets in the middle overs especially against Hyderabad. 2. Hussey brothers (Michael Hussey and David Hussey):  A. Michael Hussy (Chennai Superkings): He played just 3 matches but who will forget his match winning knock against Punjab Kings eleven. We really missed him.B. David Hussey (Kolkata Knight Riders): Most consistent player in the IPL along with Rohit Sharma. He is the force and wall in the weak batting lineup. Everyone surprised when got huge price than his illustrated brother and Ricky Ponting in the IPL auction. I think they got answers. My dream: Punjab and Rajasthan reach finals of the Indian Premier League. First ball will be bowled by Irfan Pathan to Yusuf Pathan. What a climax.A. Irfan Pathan (Punjab Kings Eleven): He already took 13 wickets and leading bowler for purple cap. He is also chipping with bat. … [Read more...]

Can they recover from Mumbai cyclone?

Chennai Superkings will clash with Kolkata Knight Riders after both teams suffered humiliating defeats against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. Mumbai cruelly exposed weak links in both teams in those two matches. Both teams are not looking as tournament winners and they are just depending on 2 to 3 players. For Kolkata, it is Sourav Ganguly and David Hussey in batting and Shoaib Akhtar in bowling while it is Dhoni, Badrinath and Morkel are for Mumbai. Home ground advantage is a big plus point for Kolkata. To raise their semi-final chances hopes, they should win this game.  Match timing: 4 PM to 7 PM live from Eden Gardens on Set Max channel.  Kolkata Knight Riders:  1. Shoaib Akhtar is in superb form and even top players are struggling against him. If Akash Chopra took the Jayasuriya catch in the Mumbai match, He might have repeated his sensational performance as he did against Delhi. Weak Chennai top order will definitely struggle against Akhtar and Ishant Sharma.  2. Sourav Ganguly returned to form and he is effectively playing all-rounder role.  3. David Hussey is one man army for Kolkata in batting. If he falters, Kolkata stumbles.  4. At Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders always play well with the support of huge fans.  Chennai Superkings:  1. Dhoni and Badrinath are carrying weak Chennai batting on their shoulders.   2. Vidyut and Raina are playing inconsistently.   3. Albie Morkel is a dangerous all-rounder who is sorely missed in Kolkata lineup.   4. Balaji is a high quality bowler and Dhoni should use him more.   5. Gony is a good bowler but not a dangerous one. Muralidharan failed to reach … [Read more...]

Bangalore IPL sacked coach and CEO

Bangalore IPL franchisee owner Vijay Mallya acted tough by sacking Coach Venkatesh Prasad and CEO Charu Sharma for non performance. Brijesh Patel will replace Charu Sharma as CEO of Bangalore Royal Challengers. Sacking of Venkatesh Prasad is yet to be officially confirmed. If BCCI acts in same manner over non-performers, Indian Cricket team will reach top ranking in all formats of game. Corporates spend big money but they want you to show them results. This is not BCCI to tolerate non-performance. They missed the boat in the first round of auction by selecting test cricketers for IPL Twenty20 matches. How can you explain the non-purchase of Robin Uthappa by Bangalore IPL? Charu Sharma took things lightly and paid heavy price. Congrats to Vijay Mallya for trying to inject accountability into Indian Premier League. Initial euphoria is finally over. We will see these types of touch acts in Football leagues. This is a new experience for Indian Cricket lovers. We will see more serious performances in IPL in the coming days.Bangalore IPL lost 5 of the last 7 matches in IPL 2008. Their dismal performance against Punjab made Vijay Mallya to take these tough decisions. These are the first causalities in Indian Premier League. We will see some more sackings in the coming days. Indian coaches and supporting staff were shocked by these sackings as they are not accustomed to such treatments by BCCI despite their dismal performance. … [Read more...]

Analysis of IPL captains

Captains played a very crucial role in changing the fortunes of their IPL teams. Captains like Shane Warne and Dhoni inspired their teams with their leadership qualities while Dravid and Laxman buckled under pressure with poor batting and unimaginative captaincy. Unlike Dravid, Laxman at least sacrificed money and iconic status. Analysis of Indian Premier League captains: 1. Shane Warne: He is the coach, captain, magician, God, motivator and saviour for underdogs Jaipur. He inspired young Jaipur team to sensational victories. 2. MS Dhoni: Ice Man Dhoni showed his immense potential against Bangalore with his hard hitting and cool captaincy. Indian cricket is in the safe hands of this “Ice Man”. We will know his real potential in the coming matches where Chennai will miss the services of Mathew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram. Can he inspire his team like Warne? 3. Virender Sehwag: One superb inning against Hyderabad and nothing else. 4. Yuvraj Singh: He is playing consistently well in all the Mohali IPL matches. But team lost some matches due to bad selection and unsettled batting order. Indian vice-captain need to prove his captaincy skills. 5. Sourav Ganguly: He is an inspirational leader but poor batsman. Kolkata fans love the passionate combination of Sourav-Shahrukh but Ganguly needs to score runs. 6. Rahul Dravid: Why is he playing in this tournament? What can he do in Twenty20 games? He should sit at home and watch matches. Poor leader but good man. 7. VVS Laxman: You should pick your best players to win tight Twenty20 games. You can’t bat; you can’t see potential in young men; you can’t take bold innovate decisions; you can’t field; you can’t say no … [Read more...]

KKR crushed RCB in IPL 2008

Kolkata IPL team crushed Bangalore Royal Challengers (test team) in a one sided twenty20 match at Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Kolkata defeated Bangalore by a big margin of 140 runs. Batting first, Kolkata IPL scored 222/3 in 20 overs thanks to magnificent 158 not out by Brendon McCullum. But Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly failed to entertain the crowds. In response, Bangalore IPL was all out for 82 runs in 15.1 overs. Bangalore people may find it difficult to digest their team’s lack of fighting spirit. Except all-rounder Praveen kumar, not even a single Bangalore batsman has shown minimum fighting spirit and application in facing Kolkata Knight Riders. Shahrukh Khan is the happiest man on earth after seeing the wonderful all-round performance by his team. Kolkata IPL outclassed Bangalore IPL in batting, bowling and fielding.  Bangalore challengers started their innings in horrible way by losing 4 wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs. Test stars like Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Wasim Jaffer failed miserably along with Indian under-19 captain Virat Kohli. India young sensation, Ishant Sharma terrorised Dravid, Kallis and Jaffer in his initial overs. Even experienced hard hitter Mark Boucher fell cheaply to Kolkata captain Sourav Ganguly.  IPL started in a spectacular fashion at Chinnaswamy stadium which was well attended by famous cricket dignitaries. Music show by Shankar Mahadevan and Laser show enthralled the Bangalore crowds. But McCullum innings overshadowed all these things.  IPL Match analysis:       Toss: Bangalore Royal Challengers won the toss and elected to field.         Highlights of the match:  1. Brendon McCullum gave sensational start to this … [Read more...]
