It made a pre-tax profit of $7.5 million in 2009.  Players’ Profile: Shane Warne: At first there were nerves and chubbiness. Then came wild soaring legbreaks, followed by fame and flippers. For a long while there were women, then a bookmaker, then diet pills, then more women - and headlines, always headlines. Now he has come out the other end, his bluff and bluster and mischief and innocence somehow intact. The man who in 2000 was rated among the five greatest cricketers of the 20th century was, in 2006, bowling better … [Read more...]

The team is coached by Robin Singh and is owned by India's biggest conglomerate, Reliance Industries, through its 100% subsidiary IndiaWin Sports. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) purchased the rights for the Mumbai franchise of Indian Premier league for a total of $111.9 million during the auction on January 24, 2008. The RIL bid has made the Mumbai Indians the most expensive franchise in IPL, and hence won the right to hold the semi-finals and the final in Mumbai. The team was unveiled on the 17th of April, 2008 in Mumbai. During the IPL's first auction for the year 2010, Mumbai Indians bought West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard for USD 750,000, after a silent tie-breaker with Chennai Super Kings,Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Only three of India's Under-19 players, priced at Rs. 800,000 each, were eligible to play in the IPL and they were chosen by a draft system. Bangalore picked U-19 captain Ashok Menaria, Deccan went for Harmeet Singh and Mumbai opted for Harshal Patel. The team logo has the Sudarshana Chakra with the team's name engraved in it. Delhi Daredevils

Team analysis: Delhi Daredevils Delhi Daredevils is the Delhi franchise for the Indian Premier League. The franchise is owned by the GMR Group. The team is captained by Gautam Gambhir. During the franchise auction for the Indian Premier League teams, Naresh Ganaparthi of GMR Group purchased the Delhi Daredevils for $84 million. Virender Sehwag has been accorded the icon player status in the Delhi team and was also the captain of the side during the first two seasons. However, he resigned and passed on the leadership to his opening partner Gautam Gambhir. The team also boasts international players such as AB de Villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Paul Collingwood, David Warner and Andrew McDonald. The bowling attack includes international players Glenn McGrath (2008–09), Daniel Vettori, Farveez Maharoof and Dirk Nannes. The team also includes the Indian players like Dinesh Karthik, Amit Mishra and Vijaykumar Yomahesh.  Players’ Profile: Virender Sehwag: Sehwag's play is always soothing to eyes and makes up his lack of footwork with sweet timing. His aggressive style is cut out for One-dayers and Twenty20 cricket, but he is equally devastating in Tests. In modern cricket if there is one player, who can dictate bowlers at will, it has to be Sehwag. What makes him special is his carefree style of play. Whether he is on 96 or 196, he is never on the defensive mode. He will play his natural game and won't mind stepping out to get to his century or a double ton. Sehwag is the only Indian batsman to have two triple centuries in Test cricket. He also comes handy with his gentle off breaks and is well known for his ability to break partnerships. Major teams: India, Asia XI, Delhi, Delhi … [Read more...]

Lessons from IPL T20 teams

Indian Premier League already witnessed some exciting contests and wonderful performances from world cricket stars. But teams like Hyderabad surprisingly lost both matches due to lack of proper planning. Everyone can learn cricket/real life lessons from these IPL T20 matches. Lessons from Indian Premier League cricket matches: 1. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers: This is a classic case of fall from grace. A. You need a motivational leader to win a contest. A weak leader like Laxman is a minus point. B. You need proper planning and unbiased selection to win in any sport. C. You need a team which is strong in all departments. Hyderabad bought 4 hard hitters and forgot about other departments. D. You need bench strength in case of emergency. What will they do when Symonds will not available in the last weeks of May? 2. Kolkata Knight Riders:A. It has exciting passionate owner like Shahrukh Khan (He is like Mark Cuban of NBA). B. It has inspirational leader like Sourav Ganguly who will not settle for second place. 3. Jaipur IPL: Shane Warne is doing magic both on and off the field with his bowling, inspiring captaincy and tactical coaching. A genius leader like Warne can spot ability in young cricketers and raise their game level. 4. Delhi Daredevils: They believed in true world class players but not bits and pieces. Bowlers like Glenn McGrath and Mohammad Asif are giving superb starts with their accurate bowling. Class is permanent. 5. Bangalore Royal Challengers: They too believed in world class bowlers like Dale Steyn, Anil Kumble, Nathan Bracken and Zaheer Khan. True all-rounder like Praveen kumar is an additional bonus. But they picked world class test batsmen for Twenty20 cricket games. 6. … [Read more...]

Jaipur IPL Team: Rajasthan Royals

What this franchise is doing in IPL? They lacked vision, strategy or passion to become successful in the Indian Premier League. Teams like Jaipur are not beneficial for the success of IPL Cricket. Kamran Akmal- Good record in Indian conditions.  2. Graeme Smith- Good opener and strategist.       Weak points:     1. Is there any strategy/passion for this franchise towards IPL? 2008 IPL Team analysis: Mumbai Indian IPL team

Mumbai failed to bid aggressively during Indian Premier League cricket auction. It even failed to buy its good players like Robin Sharma. I failed to understand its subdued bidding strategy in the IPL auction. It may build a young team by roping in good young cricketers. Mukhesh Ambani's Reliance Retail won the Mumbai Franchise by outbidding Anil Ambani's ADAG. According to sources, Mukhesh Ambani has some big plans for his Mumbai IPL team. IPL Team analysis: Kolkata Night Riders

Kolkata team has most passionate captain-owner combination among the Indian premier League teams. It is like Liverpool of India with Kolkata’s fans will definitely endorse this team as they do it for their football clubs. This IPL team finds it easy to attract audience as club culture is already established here. If the management can able to add decent twenty20 middle order batsmen among its young recruits, Kolkata Night riders may surprise Hyderabad or Chennai. I can’t understand why it bought players like Agarkar and Taibu? Franchise failed to buy its wanted players like Brett Lee and Adam Gilchrist.  Kolkata IPL team review: Rating: 3.75/5.  Franchise: Red Chillies Entertainment (Shah Rukh khan and Juhi Chawla)  Money spent at auction: Rs 20 crore.  Coach: John Buchanan.  Positive points: 1.
