IPL Game Preview: Delhi Vs Rajasthan

Delhi Daredevils will take on the Rajasthan Royals on the 31st of March at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The Delhi Daredevils seem to have got their IPL 3 campaign back on track and they get the vote to end the recent good run of the Rajasthan Royals.

This is one of the most reliable batting surfaces around. Mumbai posted the massive 218 here earlier this season and the other two first-innings scores have both produced run rates of more than 8.8 runs per over.

The Hosts:

Delhi Daredevils took to flying start at the beginning of the IPL tournament but slowly they lost the fire to win and as a result they have a dropped down the IPL standings. But they made a positive attempt against Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous match showing a lot of promise. They have yet another golden chance against the Rajasthan Royals to turn around the tables and they are not looking bad at all.

Dave Warner was the star turn against the Knight Riders with an unbeaten century. Gambhir has returned to action after injury and you get the impression that he, Sehwag and AB de Villiers have still to really click into action with the bat.

David Warner and Paul Collingwood have replaced AB De Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan and the pair inspired Delhi to a 40-run victory over Kolkata last time. All eyes will be on Warner following his brilliant 107 from just 69 balls against Kolkata. It truly is a terrifying prospect for new ball bowlers. If Warner doesn’t get you, then surely Sehwag will. The latter will be jolly for this match although bear in mind he has slumped of late with only 23 runs in his last three innings.

The Visitors:

The Rajasthan Royals have had for consecutive wins and they have made a strong come back in the league with the third spot on the league table. Shane Warne and his men are looking very strong and will play to win the fifth match in the league.

However, the surface is definitely one which rewards players who hit through the line of the ball with confidence. For Rajasthan, look out for Yusuf Pathan and Adam Voges.

Rajasthan have four wins from four following an incredible resurgence. Why they would change a winning side is a puzzle but they have Victoria batsman Aaron Finch available.

Rajasthan have always played their best when they rely on a team effort and not on individual brilliance. And that’s exactly what will drive them again in the game against Delhi. Yusuf Pathan continues to be their best batsman, but the others too have contributed handsomely with the bat, while the motley crew of bowlers led by Warne has done a creditable job.

Trivia:

In six meetings, these sides have won three each.
Rajasthan have struck 38 sixes in IPL3 to Delhi’s 31.
Sehwag’s best knock in IPL 3 so far, a 34-ball 75 was against RR in first match of two side.

Final Words:

The Royals have done remarkably well to recover from a bad start and they deserve plenty of respect here. These sides met in match number 6 when Delhi ran out winners by 6 wickets, chasing down 142 with 17 balls remaining. The Royals may well be a different proposition this time around as they come into this game on the back of four successive wins against Knight Riders, Kings XI, Deccan Chargers and the Super Kings. Four Royals bowlers, Yusuf Pathan, Warne, Tait and Trivedi have kept the lid on things to a degree to keep the Royals in hunt.
