The Rajasthan Royals will face a big test against the Dada’s Knight Rider while the Royal Challengers take on Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders: Shane Warne and his Rajasthan Royals have lost all three of their matches so far and things may not get any easier when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. How the Royals need a change in fortune. They narrowly lost their opening game of IPL 3 but things have gone from bad to worse on and off the field since then. First the news of key players Graeme Smith and Dimitri Mascarenhas being ruled out of the rest of the tournament through injury, a defeat at home to Delhi, and then a real hammering in Bangalore on Thursday. Bottom of the log, the Royals look to set for a struggle and their 92 all out against RCB on what has been a decent batting track was the lowest score of the tournament so far. By contrast, the Knight Riders won their first two matches although they were comfortably beaten by Chennai in their most recent game. Wins over the Deccan Chargers and the Royal Challengers were achieved on merit and despite the loss to the Super Kings the Knight Riders look set to give things a real go this time around. Also in their favour, Chris Gayle could now be available for selection for KKR and his presence alone would give the team even more momentum to build on what has largely been a promising start. Brendon McCullum is still with the Black Caps and will not be available until the test series against Australia finishes. The Verdict: I’m in the Knight Riders camp anyway but it’s worth keeping an eye on the team news as any appearance from Chris Gayle could tip the scales even further KKR’s way. Indian Premier League made talented unknown young cricketers into overnight stars. They have not played either test cricket or one day cricket. Even cricket maniacs don’t know much about them. But today they are household names in India thanks to IPL T20 Cricket. These young cricketers played better than their famed counterparts and will command hefty fees in the next year auction if BCCI lifts upper circuit on them. Indian cricket future is safe in their hands. Young successful cricketers in IPL T20 Cricket: 1. Shikhar Dhawan (Delhi IPL): Delhi Ranji player is an ideal no.3 in both T20 and one day cricket for India. He is in the top 10 batsmen list in IPL 2008. 2. Swapnil Asnodkar (Jaipur IPL): Goa opener needs to change state to get more attention from Indian selectors. He has the potential to replace even Virender Sehwag in Indian T20 team if necessary. He scored 132 in just 3 matches but Rajasthan inexplicably didn't seelct him against Hyderabad. 3. Virat Kohli (Bangalore IPL): India under-19 world cup winning team captain is the rare batting star in poor Bangalore team. 4. Indian cricketers are gradually taking centre stage in the Indian premier League after the exit of might Australians. Wonderful batting from Rohit Sharma (Lone warrior in a poor Hyderabad team) failed to save Hyderabad Deccan Chargers against Mohali IPL. Shane Ware’s Rajasthan Royals crushed Kolkata IPL but Warne-Ganguly episode took centre stage. Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Gang should think that Cricket is greater than any cricketer. Forget about spirit of the game, Ganguly scored a wonderful and fighting half century but team collapsed in the team.Verdict: No team seems to be clear favourite to win IPL. Most successful strategy: 1. Rajasthan Royals bet on young players and their strategy paid rich dividends. Kudos for Shane Warne for selecting young Indian cricketers over his Hampshire teammate Mascarenhas. IPL needs captains and coaches like Shane Warne. He picked Asnodkar as opener against a tough opposition like Kolkata. I can’t understand: 1. Why Hyderabad is selecting Arjun Yadav and Venugopala Rao ahead of dynamic young player Ravi Teja. I am getting headache by thinking about Hyderabad team selection. Robin Singh is the worst coach and VVS Laxman is the worst captain in IPL. 2. Why Bangalore is leaving Misbah-Ul-Haq on the bench? Bangalore needs Robin Uthappa as icon but not Rahul Dravid. My suggestion: 1. IPL authorities need to change “4 foreign player rule” to raise the quality of matches. Teams should need 5-6 international players for high quality games. 2. ICC should include IPL in their calendar otherwise we will see 10-15 retirement announcements from International players especially from England and New Zealand. 3. Indian Premier League teams will miss some match winning foreign cricketers in May. Absence of these stars will have maximum impact on teams like Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad while Teams like Rajasthan, Bangalore and Delhi will be less impacted by their absence. Dale Steyn is the bowler to watch out in May. 1. Chennai Super Kings: New Zealand all rounder Jacob Oram and Australian batsman Mathew Hayden and Michael Hussey will not play for Chennai IPL in the next month. Chennai will reach semi-finals but title hopes are almost out of question due to their absence. These three cricketers clean swept all the three man of the match awards in the Chennai matches. Chennai is the most affected team in the Indian Premier League. South African pacer Morkel may fill the void left by Jacob Oram and Stephen Fleming may partially fill the gap left by Michael Hussey. But who will replace Match winner Mathew Hayden? 2. Punjab Kings Eleven: Mohali IPL will miss its strike bowler Brett Lee, Kylie Mills and Simon Katich. It is almost impossible to fill the boots of Australian Speedster. 3. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers: They will miss their star batsman Andrew Symonds. Zaheer Khan, Praveen kumar, Anil Kumble, Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis may destroy any batting lineup in Indian Premier League. 5. Delhi daredevils: Delhi will not be affected much due to the absence of New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori. South African batsman De Villiers will join the squad. 6. What this franchise is doing in IPL? They lacked vision, strategy or passion to become successful in the Indian Premier League. Teams like Jaipur are not beneficial for the success of IPL Cricket. Rajasthan Royals were famous for courage and valour in the history but these Royals are just timid fellows. Jaipur franchise was fined for underbidding during recently held DLF Indian Premier League auction. It failed to spend the minimum amount of Rs. 13.2 crore in the IPL auction. Jaipur IPL Team analysis: Rating: 2/5. Coach: Shane Warne. Franchise: Emerging Media. Money spent: Rs. 11.7 crore. Strong points: 1. Kamran Akmal- Good record in Indian conditions. 2.
