Top 10 Indian batsmen in IPL 2008

Foreign players are dominating Indian Premier League (IPL) from the first match onwards. Brendon McCullum, Mike Hussey, David Hussey, Mathew Hayden, Mark Boucher, Kallis, Shane Watson were hogged limelight with their scintillating batting performance in the initial matches. But Indian batsmen are gradually coming into their own especially young cricketers are playing useful knocks for their teams. Surprisingly, senior cricketers failed to hog limelight in this fast format game. Virender Sehwag is the Indian batsman of the first round.

Top Indian batsmen in Indian Premier League:

1. Virender Sehwag: Only Indian who won the Man of the match award in an IPL match. He scored highest runs in a single over (30 runs) in an IPL match.

2. Suresh Raina: He was termed as “Future hope” by Wisden magazine. Sachin Tendulkar and Greg Chappell saw immense potential in him. This fine fielder suddenly lost form and place in Indian team. He played sensational cameo knocks for Chennai Super Kings in both matches. He should be in Indian one day team. Are selectors listening?

3. Yuvraj Singh: Mohali team lost both matches despite Yuvraj’s fine knocks in both matches.

4. Rohit Sharma: What a knock from this young man! He scored 26 runs in a Maharoof’s over and shone well in a poor Hyderabad team.

5. Robin Uthappa: He played well in both of Mumbai’s IPL T20 matches. Like Yuvraj, he failed to save his team.

6. Gautam Gambhir: He is continuing his fine form in IPL also. He played fine knock against Jaipur.

7. Shikhar Dhawan: He played good supporting knocks in both matches of Delhi Dare devils.

8. Ravinder Jadeja and Abhishek Nayyar: Jadeja has immense potential. He will learn much more under Shane Warne’s guidance and leadership. He destroyed Mohali bowlers in the end overs. Abhishek Nayyar is another hope.

9. MS Dhoni: Failed in one but came into his own against Mumbai. I am expecting much more from Indian captain and highest paid player in IPL.

10. Praveen Kumar &Irfan Pathan: These all-rounders are helping their team with bat also.

Batting Disaster:

1. VVS Laxman: He is becoming a big burden for his Hyderabad team.

I hope that senior cricketers will occupy more places in the next analysis. Sachin Tendulkar will play for Mumbai in the next match.
