Cochin team will play in Indian Premier League from 2011 onwards. Rendezvous Sports bought Cochin (Kochi) IPL franchisee for 1533 crore ($333.33 million).
Kochi is the commercial capital of Kerala (God’s own country). Cricket is the second most favourite game after football for Keralites.
Kerala and cricket: Kerala Ranji team is one of the weakest teams in Indian domestic cricket. So far, only 2 players represented India (Tinu Yohanan and Sreesanth).
Franchisee stakeholders:
Shailendra Gaikwad, Sanjay Gaikwad, Vivek Venugopal, Dilip Mehta, Mehul Patel, Mukhesh Patel and Anand Shah.
IPL entry: From 2011 onwards.
Stadium: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Kerala cricket association stadium will be ready for IPL 2012.
Kerala: 3.7% of Indian population and 12% of consumption.
